A European High Tea Journey, The Westin Perth

The Westin Perth’s Haven Lounge has excelled itself with its latest high tea offering, A European High Tea Journey. Inspired by Pastry Chef Sarah Rix's travels last year, she invites you to, “Eat your way around Europe!”

The three-tiered tower boasts four savoury and five sweet, delicious treats. So, I was quick to start with the English classic, cream cheese, cucumber and dill finger sandwich on tomato-infused bread. The bread had that straight-out-of-the-oven freshness, and the generous filling made it the perfect start to the afternoon.

It was then off to Germany with the Bavarian obatzda (cheese spread), smoked ham and scene stealer, tangy sauerkraut on a laugen roll. Lovers of seafood will adore the French-inspired, salmon chaudière served in a dainty glass, whilst the Dutch hachee pie, with mash and red cabbage, was an alternate take on the traditional English cottage pie and my favourite savoury of the day.

The Seven Seas peppermint tea was the perfect accompaniment for the vanilla bean scone with mixed berry jam and cream. The scone had just the right amount of crispness on the outside and light fluffiness on the inside. However, the housemade jam was up there with some of the best jam I’ve ever had. How’s this for a list of ingredients: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants, which added a delicious tartness to the mix.

The luxurious French pastry, hazelnut mille-feuille did not disappoint, while the raspberry macaron had a wonderful texture and distinct raspberry flavour. Eight layers of honey cake goodness followed before I concluded with my customary chocolate fix, an Austrian chocolate layered cake. The Sacher torte with apricot jam (which provided the sweetness) was also topped with “The Westin Perth” choc drop.

A European High Tea Journey at The Westin Perth is a culinary triumph of the vast flavours and traditions across the continent. Their gluten-free offering closely resembles the main menu and tastes just as scrumptious.

It is a very reasonable $79 per person, and there are four signature cocktails on offer: Ruby Spritz, Haarlem Bloom, French Martini and Born Ember, for a little extra. Sittings are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 2.30pm.

The Haven Lounge is both relaxing and spacious, and the staff certainly look after you. This feast for the tastebuds is only available until Sunday 30th August 2026, so don’t delay; make a booking today.
