It is easy to imagine a troupe of Oompa-Loompas busily crafting chocolates behind the scenes. From here, the venue opens into a light-filled café, creating an inviting and unpretentious setting for High Tea.
This High Tea at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie is designed with abundance in mind. Portions are generous, and you are encouraged to take home what they cannot finish.
The experience begins with a berry and mint punch, a bright and refreshing start that complements the savoury course. Highlights include the chicken finger sandwich with dill and mayonnaise and the petite ham and cheese croissant, perfectly baked and satisfyingly rich. A varied selection follows, including salmon blini with cream cheese, chives and capers, vegetable wraps, falafel with hummus, and sweet potato croquettes with wasabi mayonnaise. The vegetable samosa with sweet chilli adds a subtle spice, rounding out a well-considered savoury offering.
The transition to sweets is where the experience truly leans into its chocolate-laden identity. The vanilla bean scone, served with berry jam and a dollop of cream, provides a classic High Tea anchor.
