Cottesloe is famous for its breathtaking coastline, so what better way to while away a few hours on a lazy afternoon than with an elegant “Long High Tea” at Longview Cottesloe.

Executive Chef, Aldren Teo explained, “Being by the coast, we place a strong focus on seasonal produce and update our high tea menu as the seasons change, with lighter, fresher offerings during the warmer seasons.”

Presented on a dainty three-tiered stand accompanied by flower petals (and paired with the prettiest cups and saucers you’ve ever seen), the locally produced ingredients really shone. A perfect example of this was crowd favourite (and understandably so), the WA lobster finger sandwich with yuzu mayo. The bread had that fresh baked taste and the lobster was divine!

“We’re inspired by a blend of classic and modern styles, taking traditional high tea elements and giving them a playful, contemporary twist,” Aldren said.

A perfect example of this was the delicious poached Lillydale chicken roll with herb mayo on a scone-like base. Rounding out the savouries was a tartlet which boasted two layers of beetroot, and WA Bookara goat’s curd.

There is a selection of fine teas available and on this occasion, I ordered the peppermint tea to accompany the six, yes six, sweet offerings which had a lot to live up to after such an auspicious start with the savouries. The poached pear and maple tartlet didn’t disappoint, and rum fans will have plenty to smile about with the vanilla bean and rum canelé, while the lemon-glazed St Michel Madeleine ticked all the right boxes.

For the traditionalists, the house baked scones with generous lashings of berry jam and cream stood out and perennial favourite, the macaron, in this case, heart shaped and raspberry, delivered the expected sugar hit. I rounded off the afternoon with the decadent chocolate petit fours.

Longview Cottesloe is “about delivering food that feels thoughtful, well-balanced, and beautifully presented, while still being approachable. The ocean views create a relaxed atmosphere, and when you pair that with good food and attentive service, it naturally makes the experience feel memorable,” Aldren said.

Their seasonal high tea is available Friday – Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. It’s a steal at just $49 per person or $59 with a glass of Prosecco and they do cater to special dietary requirements. Their gluten free offering is impressive and very similar to the standard menu.

Longview Cottesloe lives up to its name, boasting one of the best beachside views in Perth, and their Long High Tea is a delight from start to finish. It really is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
