Looking for a high tea with a view? Look no further. Melbourne’s Fleet Rooftop Bar offers the perfect Instagrammable setting with its picnic high tea offering, which comes with sweeping views of the Yarra River and Southbank.

Located on level 22 of the Vibe Hotel Melbourne, this venue impresses at first sight.

The city skyline is juxtaposed with rustic picnic tables and outdoor lounge settings lined along the glass enclosed terrace area, offering a playful outdoor vibe with the luxury of being protected from the elements.

There’s lots of cosy, thoughtful touches to enhance the picnic setting: green and white gingham tablecloths, a basket overflowing with wild flowers, plush cushions to rest back on and blankets in case you’re feeling a bit chilly (which are not needed on this spectacularly sunny winter’s day).

There’s also – rather impressively for the $85 price point – a bottle of 2023 Port Phillip Salasso Rose sitting in a silver bucket next to the table. For those inclined, there’s also a selection of mocktails.

The menu is bright, colourful and bursting with Australian favourites, and we get off to a great start with the super creamy and delicious spiced chicken finger sandwich, followed closely by a potato hash finger topped with truffle coins sourced from Red Hill.

The tempura prawn cocktail comes with a welcome bite in the form of a delightfully spicy marie rose sauce, while the ham and cheese croissant is a sure-fire winner.

The desserts bring strong citrus flavours, including an amazing lemon-flavoured mini lamington and a lemon meringue tart dotted with extra lemon curd and micro flowers, the biscuity base providing the right amount of crunch.

Then there’s that perennial Australian classic – the mini pavlova – topped with berries and tasting every bit as good as it looks.

Meanwhile, an Earl Grey mousse encased in a white chocolate ball with a tart mango and gin jelly centre is sure to tickle the tastebuds of those looking for something a little less sweet.

Interestingly, there’s only sultana scones on offer (no complaints here, but I imagine some may be disappointed not to have a plain scone option), served with blood orange jam and Chantilly cream.

Executive chef Ajosh Abraham-Thomas (who boasts Society Restaurant in his impressive resume) has certainly delivered an elevated take on a picnic high tea, and at a reasonable price point too.

Bookmark this one for hens parties, baby showers, birthdays, or simply an opportunity to enjoy a high tea with a view.
