Nestled at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the Rocks precinct, the Park Hyatt is a 5 star luxury hotel offering a 5 star afternoon tea experience.

The floor to ceiling windows perfectly frame the harbour views all the way across to the Sydney Opera House. The room is bathed in natural light, with plush chairs pulled up to tables set with fine bone china, champagne flutes and fresh flowers. It’s the ideal spot to sit and watch as people come and go along the boardwalk outside.

There are two afternoon tea options, both with the same menu. The traditional afternoon tea is served with your choice of tea or coffee; while the champagne afternoon tea includes a flute of Moet & Chandon Rose.

The tier arrived to the table shortly after we were seated by the friendly and attentive staff. The tier is covered with an assortment of perfectly petite sweet and savoury options. The sandwiches are fresh, delicate and delicious, the kind of dainty that means they’re gone in one or two nibbles.

The sweet tier is similarly dainty. The attention to detail is flawless and everything on the tier is of a very high standard. The kitchen clearly has some talented pastry chefs back there.

If you’re not a fruit scone fan, rejoice! The scones, which are served warm, are the more traditional plain kind. Sprinkled with tiny cubes of sugar, they’re some of the best scones we’ve sampled in a while. A nice crusty outside, with a moist, but not too dense centre. Served with clotted cream and some of the most impressive, thickest strawberry jam we’ve ever seen. It was a perfect dolloping jam that didn’t run off the edges into a sticky mess on your plate, and that strawberry flavour… just wow!
