Summer High Tea at The Westin Melbourne

Summer High Tea at The Westin Melbourne

Summer High Tea at The Westin Melbourne strikes a rare balance: elegant without being stuffy, generous without feeling overdone.

The savoury tier of the Summer High Tea set a strong tone from the outset. The Chicken Caesar finger sandwich with sourdough crumb was beautifully balanced and satisfying, while the standout for me was the Spanish prawn paella bomba, finished with saffron aioli and pickled kumquat. Rich, savoury and perfectly executed, it was one of those bites you wish you could quietly ask for again.

The scones were a clear highlight – fluffy, warm and unmistakably fresh, served with traditional accompaniments that didn’t try to reinvent the wheel (thankfully). On the sweet side, the cherry tart stood out for its balance of sweetness and sharpness, offering a clean finish rather than sugar overload.

Between savoury and sweet, we were surprised with a mango, jalapeño and yoghurt smoothie shot – an inventive and genuinely refreshing palate cleanser that worked far better than expected. It’s a clever touch that lifts the whole experience.

The tea menu is impressive, featuring 14 blends from Teascapes, a distinctive Australian tea brand inspired by flavours and traditions from around the world. There’s something for every mood. Adding a glass of French champagne elevated the afternoon into a true occasion and, in our view, represents excellent value for the quality on offer.

Set in the light-filled Lobby Lounge, overlooking the newly launched Town Hall Station precinct, the space feels open, relaxed and very “Melbourne”. All up, this is a high tea that delivers on flavour, atmosphere and value – ideal for celebrations or simply a special afternoon treat.
