If your idea of the perfect Sunday involves sipping French sparkling wine in a chic Parisian-style bar while nibbling on delicate treats, then High Tea à la Gigi in Prahran should be top of your list.

Every Sunday from midday, GiGi throws open its doors for a fabulously French take on high tea, and it’s as stylish and cheeky as the venue itself. Priced at $99 per person, this experience includes two hours of free-flowing French wines and sparkling – yes, you read that right – alongside beautifully presented sweet and savoury delights. Add in Rosso Roasting Co. French press coffee and Larsen & Thompson loose leaf teas, and you’ve got a high tea with serious flair and flow.

Set within a gorgeously outfitted French-inspired bar on Greville Street, the venue oozes charm. From the vintage chandeliers to the upbeat French jazz playing in the background, it’s easy to forget you’re in Melbourne at all. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, with staff who strike the perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive – our glasses were never empty, and our table felt well looked after throughout.

The food? Irresistible. The savouries were a hit with our group, especially the toasted poached chicken sandwich with tarragon – it was a standout. Served on whisper-thin, golden-toasted bread with a satisfying crunch, it was one of those treats that makes you pause mid-conversation in appreciation. Other favourites included the pumpkin, hazelnut and gruyere vol-au-vent, and the “eggs on eggs” with salmon roe, which added a luxe little pop of saltiness.

The sweet course featured delicate handmade macarons, rich profiteroles with passionfruit and milk chocolate, and a dark chocolate and raspberry dacquoise that felt like something straight out of a Parisian patisserie. The lemon tarts were sharp and bright, with a creme brulee style crust – delicious!

We loved that portion sizes were just right – enough to feel indulgent without being over the top. It was the perfect balance of elegance and fun, and made for a relaxed, delicious way to spend the afternoon. We even spotted a couple of local celebrities enjoying the atmosphere alongside us.

We paid our own way, and all agreed we’d return in a heartbeat. High Tea à la Gigi isn’t just a treat – it’s an experience. Très chic, très delicious, and très fabulous.
