The Lavender Bistro & Boutique in the picturesque Swan Valley has a relaxed charm and this comes through in their very reasonably priced high tea.
Prices start at $25 per person through to $34 per person for a glass of sparkling and cup of tea or coffee.
There is so much to like about this place; however, the real star is their lavender themed food all beautifully presented on a crisp white three tier stand, accompanied by the oh so pretty lavender patterned crockery.
So I was keen to jump right in. I kicked off proceedings with a glass of sparkling rosé before starting at the top of the stand where three bite sized hot savoury treats awaited me. The carrot and nutmeg tart was first up and the combination of flavours worked so well with the buttery shell making it hit on the palette. I then turned my attention to something you don’t see a lot of these days, the classic vol-au-vent. This one was filled with pesto and was packed full of flavour. A delicious eggplant mini muffin rounded out the top tier.
Time for the second tier where the finger sandwiches resided. Merely cementing that good things come in threes, I started with the cucumber and cream cheese white sandwich. The refreshing filling was just the ticket after the full-flavoured hot savouries. Next up was the curried egg sandwich on wholemeal. The curry element was mild so suitable for most palettes. Sandwich of the day goes to the tuna on multi grain. The filling was plentiful and packed full of flavour, there was even a hint of lavender. I like that white, wholemeal and multigrain bread all made an appearance and was super fresh to boot.
It seemed only fitting that I have one of their house-made specialities, the aromatic lavender tea to accompany my desserts on the bottom tier. The serenity kicked into high gear when it came time to trying their lavender scones, with jam and double cream. Just the fragrance alone was a lesson in aromatherapy never mind how amazing they were in terms of flavour making them hands down the most unique and best dessert of the day.
Next up was a pineapple and coconut slab which was both light and fruity whilst the lemon curd tart slapped me in the face with its rich citrus flavour and left me wanting another, and another. Another lavender scene stealer came in the form of the purple lavender macaron. Once again the fragrance was to die for and all before the first bite much less the delightful flavour that stays with you long after you’ve finished. I always like to end on a chocolate high and this was no exception in the form of a delicate baby choc cupcake, simply yum!
The Lavender Bistro prides itself on using local produce and every item on their high tea menu is made with love and that comes through with every bite. The menu changes weekly but don’t despair the lavender treats are a crowd favourite and appear regularly. It pays to book, especially on weekends as the day I was there it was packed to the rafters. You can also take a piece of the place home with you thanks to the popular house-made lavender products for sale on the premises at La Boutique.
