Don’t be late for a very important date at The Stamford Grand by the beach at Glenelg, Adelaide. There will be school holiday fun at the Mad Hatter’s High Tea Parties.

There was a lot of sugar, but it wouldn’t be a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party without copious amounts of it! We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and the kids were able to choose one of the colourful Mocktails.

I ordered one of the Dilmah flavoured teas, Peppermint and English Toffee which was lovely. Dilmah do a great job with their flavoured teas from Rose and Vanilla to Italian Almond. Coffee is also available on request.

The combination of Carrot scones with cream cheese worked. They were fresh and fluffy with fresh cream and jam. The children sitting with us enjoyed the March Hare’s scones too. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme continued with The Queen of Hearts Jam Tarts. They were very fresh and delicious.

The mini chocolate teacups with strawberry mousse were cute and tasty. The Tick Tock Macarons were chewy, as they should be!

Arancini was a great addition to the High Tea and something different with porcini mushroom and truffle.

The Adult Menu and the Children’s Menu varies slightly.

The Mad Hatter’s High Tea is held in the Ballroom upstairs which is very eloquent, and you get a nice view of the sea too.

There will also be entertainment for the children and a best dressed door prize. Get your Top Hat and Alice in Wonderland outfit ready.

I’m hopeful the Queen of Hearts won’t want the Chef’s head off!

Angie McBride

Angie got her passion for high tea, in particular scones from her Nanna. She would stay at her house regularly and they would bake scones, pasties and cakes for hours. Angie’s scones are quite popular amongst her friends. She says they need to be traditionally made though – kneading the butter and making a well for the milk! Not cream and lemonade thank you! She is a self-confessed tea snob and loves a great quality tea. She says it’s lovely, soothing and there’s nothing like a pretty tea cup.
