High Tea by Dzert offers exquisite delights, from the famed Basque Cheesecake to the divine scones. Every treat, savoury or sweet, is handmade with pride by head chef and owner Maria Lanaras.
Just a two-minute amble from Sandringham Station, through charming local shops and cafes, is arguably Melbourne’s best Basque Cheesecake (as awarded by this author – but watch this space, this best kept secret is about to get out!). It also happens to be the signature dish included in High Tea by Dzert.
Launched in October 2023, Dzert is the new kid on the block when it comes to cakes and treats in Melbourne. And yet despite having only recently arrived, head chef and owner Maria Lanaras has been perfecting her craft for many years, previously wholesaling to cafes and restaurants around Melbourne. And so we were thoroughly surprised and delighted to find that this High Tea ticked all the boxes – if you are a local then you’re in luck! High Tea at Dzert is one I would definitely go back for.
So I mentioned the Basque Cheesecake (which you can also purchase in full size from their display cabinet to take home) but the High Tea thrills don’t end there. Also worth noting, the Dzert scones are possibly the best scones I think I’ve ever had. Not only were they delectable (think melting moments, but as scones) but they were high tea bite sized – something that I really appreciated!
As expected all the sweets served were delicious. And the savoury items also hit the spot – the standout savoury for me was the Blini with Smoked Salmon. It was so fresh I think Maria might have whipped up the mini pancake as we walked in the door.
Maria is incredibly proud of the fact that she bakes all of the items on the High Tea stand from scratch in her kitchen daily – not something many High Tea venues can boast.
