It is very easy to get swept up with the views of the Adelaide Hills, Adelaide Oval, and the city skyline. Sôl Rooftop Restaurant and Bar has just that on level nine of Skycity Adelaide.

The Sôl Rooftop High Tea is as indulgent and flavoursome as the views with everything made on site from mainly local South Australian ingredients.

We were welcomed with a glass of NV Penfolds x Thienot Ros Champagne on arrival.

The coffee is sourced from local and popular roaster Dawn Patrol. I had a pot of Lemon Myrtle tea from local and organic tea maker, The Tea Catcher. It was calming to drink and had a nice flavour.

We started with the Mortadella Katsu Sando, and it was delicious. I am a fan of katsu and was pleased it was on the menu.

The pork sausage roll was fresh, and the buttery pastry melted in your mouth. The beetroot ketchup was a great variation instead of tomato sauce. My preference is the beetroot ketchup any day!

The sour cream scones were appetizing with the Riverland citrus gin marmalade taking the flavour to another level. I would most definitely order a pot of that to have on hand at home.

The sweet element of the Sôl Rooftop High Tea was fresh and extremely tasty.

Now for the piece de resistance! Make sure you leave enough room to indulge in the cakes and pastries from the Marble Patisserie Bar. Eat at as many as you can handle! We shared the pistachio and chocolate roulade and the chocolate brownie. They were moist and delicately made. We squeezed in crème brulee, and the texture was exactly as it should be.

The service at Sôl Rooftop was outstanding. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.

Angie McBride

Angie got her passion for high tea, in particular scones from her Nanna. She would stay at her house regularly and they would bake scones, pasties and cakes for hours. Angie’s scones are quite popular amongst her friends. She says they need to be traditionally made though – kneading the butter and making a well for the milk! Not cream and lemonade thank you! She is a self-confessed tea snob and loves a great quality tea. She says it’s lovely, soothing and there’s nothing like a pretty tea cup.
