High Tea At Glen Ewin Estate

We visit the historic Glen Ewin Estate in the Adelaide Hills for High Tea.

The history of Glen Ewin Estate began in 1843 where George McEwin began planting fruit trees and vines. In 1891 the production of wine ceased, and Glen Ewin Jams began. The Jam label was purchased by IXL in the 80s. The Wauchope’s bought the derelict estate in the 1990’s and gave it life again as a premier wedding venue and Bistro Cellar Door where local produce and local wines are served.

You can easily get swept up in the beautiful surrounds of the Adelaide Hills, but Glen Ewin Estate delivers with the amazing flavours and quality of their High Tea.

The Glen Ewin Estate High Tea is focussed on the Fig. There are 15,000 fig trees on the property, and they make various Fig Products on site including Jam, Gin and Aperitif.

All the items on the High Tea Menu are created and made onsite by Executive Chef Jason Theng. Jason is very talented with the taste and details of each item apparent in his passion and skill.

The chicken and herb sausage rolls were full of actual chicken and were so fresh and tasty. The sandwiches had great flavour combinations with cucumber + hummus plus salami + aioli in a mini bun.

The Scones were fluffy, and the Fig Jam goes so well with them. The signature Fig theme continues with their house baked Fig cheesecake and Fig leaf macarons.

There was also a good selection of teas from Origin Tea. I tried Forest Berry, which was lovely.

We finished of with a delicate and tasty chocolate tartlet and left with satisfied stomachs and our bags full as we purchased additional Fig Products to enjoy at home!

The regular High Tea is on every weekend from 2pm for just $49.

Angie McBride

Angie got her passion for high tea, in particular scones from her Nanna. She would stay at her house regularly and they would bake scones, pasties and cakes for hours. Angie’s scones are quite popular amongst her friends. She says they need to be traditionally made though – kneading the butter and making a well for the milk! Not cream and lemonade thank you! She is a self-confessed tea snob and loves a great quality tea. She says it’s lovely, soothing and there’s nothing like a pretty tea cup.
