Savour an affordable New York-inspired high tea at the Melbourne Marriott.

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne on the corner of Exhibition and Lonsdale Street, the Melbourne Marriott Hotel infuses Melbourne’s rich history along paying homage to the Marriott’s American roots with the New York High Tea experience.

The Essence Restaurant at the Melbourne Marriott is a visual ode to Melbourne’s captivating history and contemporary charm, as vintage photos illustrate Melbourne’s evolution through time. These photos evoke a sense of nostalgia and create a comforting backdrop for the dining experience.

Swami Nanden is the Head Chef behind this delectable high tea experience. With an impressive resume boasting stints at esteemed establishments like Michelin-starred Benares Mayfair, Noma, and Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s. His philosophy revolves around creating visually stunning dishes that tantalise the taste buds and make a striking impression in the Instagram era.

A savoury highlight is the pastrami, mustard mayo and sauerkraut bagel, with a blend of tangy notes. Meanwhile, the Bahamian lobster sliders boast freshness and lightness. The Chicken and Leek Pithivier delights with its delicious flavour.

The middle tier reveals a realm of sweet indulgence. The mini choux pastry éclair captivates the eyes and the taste buds, boasting an explosion of chocolate that delights with every bite.

The top tier includes macarons, a New York cheesecake and Espresso Martini. The sweet highlight was the New York cheesecake, a decadent treat that marries the creaminess of cheesecake with the delightful tanginess and sweetness of raspberries.

The tea menu includes a Ceylon green tea with lychee and ginger, rose with French vanilla, Italian almond, peppermint, Chamomile, and a brilliant breakfast tea. I loved the rose and French vanilla tea, which smelled gorgeous and tasted like springtime mixed with a lovely vanilla cake in the sip.

The high tea includes bottomless tea and coffee, as well as the option to add on cocktails, including a Manhattan, Cosmopolitan and The Bronx cocktail or with the option to add on King Valley Dal Zotto Prosecco or Chandon Brut from the Yarra Valley.

The Melbourne Marriott caters to dietary preferences and allergies. With 24 hours notice, they offer dairy-free and gluten-free alternatives, ensuring everyone can partake in this indulgent experience.

The Melbourne Marriott Hotel’s Essence Restaurant delivers a delightful New York-inspired high tea experience that seamlessly marries two cultures’ culinary delights. It’s an ideal setting for gatherings, celebrations, or a luxurious treat amidst Melbourne’s bustling heart. The food was delightful, and it’s a fantastic experience to share with friends and family or on special occasions! What stood out to me is that the staff were super kind and understanding of my nut allergy and supplemented some of the desserts with a special dessert prepared by the chef. It was lovely and added to the customer experience.
