Heritage setting delivers a fine traditional afternoon tea at The Tea Room, QVB Sydney.

A unique heritage setting in the heart of the CBD, amidst busy shopping and business precincts, High Tea Society had the pleasure of experiencing Traditional Afternoon Tea at The Tea Room in Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building.

The Tea Room provides polished service and an appreciation of the fine art of tea taking, served on authentic British three tiered silvers stands with Royal Albert china. The Tea Room’s afternoon tea is everything you’d expect from a traditional tea service with an extensive tea menu, stunning floral arrangements, glistening silverware and plush furniture.

The traditional afternoon tea includes a selection of sweet cakes and warm savoury pastries, an array of finger sandwiches, homemade scones with preserve and clotted cream and a wide selection of teas, including herbal, Chinese and traditional flavours which enthusiastic staff are on hand to explain to you. Gluten free afternoon tea is also available daily and you may opt to compliment your afternoon tea with a glass of Australian sparkling wine or a piccolo of French Champagne.

With the wide variety of tea on offer, three full pages worth, we decided on the Darjeeling Summer for its flowery richness and Royal Gunpowder for its tartness but were also tempted by the delicate Jasmine Pearls and coffee-strength Assa Molkabarir. Staff attentively top up your silver tea pot with hot water, so never fear of a parched mouth for your tea treats.

Traditional crust-less sandwiches such as smoked salmon, ham, egg and cress, and cucumber are balanced with the warm savoury richness of the spinach filo parcels and truffle infused shell pastries. Heartily sized scones welcome dollops of clotted-cream whilst an array of pastries such as tarts, macaroons and chocolate fondant excite the eye and tastebuds.
