Mary Eats Cake opens new venue in Montrose

Off the back of the success of their first venue, Mary Eats Cake in Brunswick, the owners Sarah de Witt (a Tea Sommelier) and Jessica Hillbrick (a French trained Pastry Chef) have opened their second venue in Montrose, in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

While most of us enjoyed a lazy summer, the ‘Mary’ team worked tirelessly renovating a cottage at the foot of Mount Dandenong; to launch one of the largest dedicated high tea venues in Melbourne.

And what a venue it is. High Tea Society attended the launch party on Sunday night along with Jessica and Sarah’s family, friends and supporters. We were welcomed on arrival by the entrepreneurial pair, who showed us around their new venture. The charming venue houses a main dining area along with 3 private rooms and an outside patio. The chandeliers, floral arrangements and ivy wall features certainly convert this little cottage into a delightful high tea haven.

While a jazz duo set the scene, the waiters kept us well fed with an endless supply of sweet and savoury delights. For those familiar with the Brunswick venue, some of the food featured was straight from their Traditional and Seasonal menu such as the mango cheesecake, lemon and chocolate cake-pop, and the high tea staple, scones with raspberry jam and cream. There was also some surprises such as the chocolate tart with Ferrero Rocher and creme brulee.
