COMO The Treasury's afternoon tea in the Cape Arid Rooms never fails to disappoint, so I jumped at the chance to revisit one of the best afternoon teas in Perth.

Situated in the heart of the city, the three rooms showcase beautiful watercolour and ink paintings from Alex and Philippa Nikulinsky’s Cape Arid Collection and the luxury 5 star hotel offers a picture-perfect menu to match.

I kicked off the afternoon with a glass of Taittinger Cuvee Prestige, which rightly set the tone for the decadent and delicious afternoon tea. The beautiful menu booklet caught my eye, and it wasn’t long before I ordered the Purple Rain iced tea which was as unforgettable as the 80s soundtrack of the same name. Boasting blueberry, apple, mango, and a strong passionfruit flavour, the green tea was both refreshing and eye catching.

The table setting also caught my attention in that the local timber three-tiered tower frame was already at the table. The wait staff then laid out three plates containing three savouries, three desserts, and two scones, also sourced from local ingredients.

Without further ado, I jumped right in and had the leg ham with crushed pea and basil mayonnaise croquette. The warm savoury had a welcome crispiness, which gave it that fresh out of the oven feel. Next up was the tartlet with smoked salmon, beetroot, horseradish cream, and caviar. Seafood fans will love this, as did I. I finished up the savouries on the middle tier with the finger egg sandwich, topped with pickled onion and cucumber which not only gave it crunch but also a welcome sour and salty flavour alongside the creamy egg filling. Hands down my favourite savoury of the day.

I couldn’t wait to unwrap the toasty plain and raisin scones nestled in a crisp white napkin on the bottom tier. I do so love a warm scone, it makes such a difference to the overall flavour, and paired with their (almost) scene stealing strawberry jam and cream, both scones were scrumptious.

It was then time to order my tea, minted raspberry (courtesy of Teassential), in readiness for the show stopping desserts on the top tier. The citrus cheesecake on a hazelnut biscuit (which hides a mystery treat inside) was light and summery, while the choux bun with matcha custard, jasmine Chantilly, and lychee may have looked like a savoury but it was definitely a step up in the richness ladder. The top (in more ways than one) belongs to the chocolate and peanut delice, with peanut butter ganache on a cocoa sponge, and yes, it is as rich as it sounds. Dish of the day right there!

The afternoon tea at COMO the Treasury is always perfection on a plate, or three, and this visit was no exception. Their gluten free option is equally impressive, with a special shout out to the light and fluffy scones. If all that isn’t enough, every person gets a little goodie bag to take home, so it’s truly worth every cent of the $85 per person price tag.

Don’t forget to book for THE afternoon tea you will never forget.
