Afternoon Tea at View Brisbane

Enjoy the best of Brisbane’s sunshine by indulging in High Tea by the pool at View Brisbane in Hamilton.

The quiet and perfectly situated hotel (with the added bonus of free onsite parking) will make you and those you dine with feel like you’re the only people in the room.

But if air-conditioning is more your vibe, you also have the choice to dine inside the hotel, with its lovely classic interior and Brisbane river views.

On a particularly beautiful sunny Saturday, the High Tea Society delighted in afternoon tea by the pool under a charmingly shady fig tree with a friendly resident water dragon for company. Just your quintessential Brisbane summer experience.

High Tea is a relatively new offering for View Brisbane, who initially put it on the menu at the start of 2020, before the pesky coronavirus put a stop to all things fun. But it’s now back with gusto and some delicious treats to boot. The highlight for me was the delicious scones, a wonderful variety of savoury pastries and what can only be described as a smorgasbord of finger sandwiches. Less of an afternoon tea and more a long lunch. Variety is definitely a key element of this high tea, with something to tickle everyone’s fancy.

While variety is the spice of life, there was certainly a lot to be enjoyed. And a high tea is probably one of the only places one would complain about being overfed. However, if you’re dining with your less than enthused partner or friend who thinks high tea is a lot of faffing about for a couple of sandwiches (a direct quote from my SO) they’ll be pleasantly surprised by this one and certainly won’t leave hungry.

High Tea at View Brisbane is the Chef’s selection, meaning don’t expect a detailed menu. The lovely staff at the hotel will accommodate your dietaries and will do their best include any specific suggestions, otherwise the offering will include the classics such as scones and sandwiches but the finer details will be based on seasonal flavours and the Chef’s creativity. Not a bad way to keep your menu fresh with ideas! This high tea is also served with a selection of Pickwicks teas or espresso coffee on Australian fine china and, of course, offers a selection of exquisite sweet treats.

The best part about this high tea is the price. Starting at $39 per person for the View High Tea through to $69 for the Champagne High Tea with a glass of Moet, this high tea is affordable but also boujee if that’s more to your liking. And after a challenging 2020 for many, afternoon tea is a wonderful treat that everyone should be able to enjoy.

View Brisbane’s high tea may still be finding its feet and deciding what it wants to be, but this does not takeaway from the overall experience and the effort behind the menu. One to be enjoyed with friends or, if you’re lucky enough to be a guest of the hotel (which is dog friendly!) after a refreshing swim in their stunning pool on a perfect Brisbane day.
