High Tea at TWR, Crown Perth is always a spectacle in the best possible way. Once again, the stunning décor stopped me in my tracks. From the show-stopping chandeliers and spacious luxury seating to the picturesque views of the Swan River. It is a sight to behold.

And then the elaborate rose gold three-tiered bird stand showcasing their mouth-watering menu arrived, with an equally impressive “expertly crafted” Hendricks Gin cocktail, Stardust.

I started on the bottom tier with the lobster prawn bun with creamy remoulade and pickled cucumber. The crustacean combo was both refreshing and surprisingly light. I continued with the seafood theme and loved the smoked salmon, lemon mayonnaise, and soy pearls (my first time sampling these delightful drops of flavour) on toasted brioche. An éclair with a difference followed. This one boasted roasted pumpkin with truffle, granola, and pepitas. I left the best savoury for last, petite beef Wellington with caramelised onion purée and pancetta. The warm aromatic morsel left me wanting more.

The middle tier beckoned where the traditional and sultana scones resided, so I ordered my peppermint tea in readiness for the afternoon tea staple, and they did not disappoint. The strawberry jam and clotted cream were the perfect accompaniment for the light and crumbly scones. Extra points for wrapping them in a napkin to preserve the warmth. I do love that fresh out of the oven feel.

It was then time to move up to the top tier, where the three desserts were calling my name. The passionfruit financier, pineapple petite gateaux, was a light, fruity summery start to my favourite part of the menu. While the yuzu tartlet with raspberry gel and vanilla cream packed a punch with a strong citrus flavour. However, the dark chocolate genoise with praline mousse and lime and mint gel was sublime, and yes, it tasted as good as it sounds, earning my coveted dish of the day. Everything from the sponge to the mousse to the gel was a delight, with every mouthful better than the last!
