The luxury boutique hotel, QT Perth is in the heart of the CBD and boasts a décor you want to settle into for the afternoon.
I got a sense of things to come as I made my way up the stairs (there is also a lift) to Santini on the first floor and heard the sound of people having a great afternoon.
Once seated, I was treated to a glass of Perrier Jouet champagne. Adding to the glamour was the table setting, which consisted of Cristina Re plates, saucers, and then teapots filled with Seven Seas Moroccan Mint tea. It wasn’t long before the finishing touch arrived—the three-tiered tower of treats.
As is my custom, I started on the bottom tier with the lemon and oregano chicken with cos lettuce, housed in a brioche roll. The chicken combined well with the lemon and was a light, refreshing way to begin my High Tea at the QT. The popular citrus fruit made another appearance in the form of an aioli with blue swimmer crab and celery on a toasted finger, yum! Next up was an interesting combination of flavours: sun-dried tomato, goats curd, and basil pesto in a short-crust tartlet. The sun-dried tomato took centre stage against a surprisingly sweet backdrop. I finished up this tier with my favourite savoury, the poached salmon, asparagus, and zucchini quiche. The creamy filling really allowed the salmon to shine.
I then moved onto the middle tier, where the first round of desserts resided. I opted to start with the salted caramel and pecan tartlet, which was a huge hit. The pretty as a picture baked raspberry and vanilla cheesecake was next, and the fruity flavours on top was a welcome addition after the richness of the tartlet.

The final and top tier served up “dish” of the day: bitter chocolate and orange vanilla meringue. I am a huge fan of orange chocolate, and the QT does it really well. I wrapped up the afternoon with the surprisingly light, sweet ricotta and stracciatella chocolate cannoli.
