High tea with a French flair? We say oui. Located just steps from Melbourne’s iconic foodie haven, Prahran Market - Reverie Café & Dessert Prahran is serving up a high tea experience that’s not just delicious, but well priced.

At the helm, French pastry chef Pierrick Boyer has been curating delicious creations for the likes of the Ritz Carlton Boston and as the Sous Pastry Chef at the Parisian Hotel Plaza Athénée before making his way to Melbourne’s RACV City Club and now at the helm of Reverie where for six years, he’s been creating treats and sweets on the doorstep of Prahran Market.

Step inside to discover a modern café-style that’s ideal for a casual lunch bite or in our case, their high tea experience.

Boyer emphasises the importance of everything being made in-house with plenty of attention to detail including the real chocolate shavings (not powder) on their cappuccinos. And it’s this freshness that’s made his creations sought-after by local hotels and eateries seeking petit fours you simply can’t pass up.

“It’s all about the freshness of the product,” says Boyer, confirming that preparing everything in-house “makes all the difference to the quality and flavour.”

In traditional fashion, high tea arrives on a tiered platter with both savouries and sweets on offer as well as fluffy scones created using a recipe inspired by the kitchen at the Ritz Carlton Boston and served with house-made strawberry jam.

Savoury options include two chicken and herb mini tarts, two salmon brioche and mini Croque Monsieur’s created from homemade bread and gruyere. (It’s a French high tea after all.)

Sweet options include a selection of petit fours including a chocolate and raspberry macaron, the Charlotte-Tiffany, a signature Tiffany baby blue sweet consisting of blueberry and dark chocolate mousse and named after his daughter as well as a salted caramel choux bun and lastly, Boyer’s admitted favourite, a ‘HSC’ or hazelnut soft and crunchy, a delicious treat of Hazelnut dacquoise, crunchy praline, and milk choc Chantilly that reminds us of a tasty Ferrero Rocher.

The high tea experience must be booked in advance and can be booked for either 10am, 11:30 am or 1pm any day they are open. The experience makes for a great option for group celebrations or treating someone special to a lovely day out.

At $55 per person, high tea at Reverie is great value with unlimited hot drinks, and the option to add on a glass of sparkling for $10 or go the full French experience with a glass of Champagne for $20. They also cater to gluten-free and vegan diners, with advance notice.
