Enjoy the Never Never Gin High Tea at Sofitel Adelaide with seasonal flavours, handcrafted cocktails and stunning city views.

The Sofitel Adelaide is elegant and classy. We were very fortunate to be offered the Never Never Gin High Tea. Never Never Distilling Co is based at the beautiful McLaren Vale. It is great the Sofitel Adelaide are partnering with this local distillery. Drinking cocktails, eating scones with a view from the 9th floor; we felt very spoilt and very special. It was a lovely treat and lovely experience.

The wattle seed scones were a nice and different flavour. They were served with persimmon jam. I don’t think I had tried Persimmon before. I really liked the flavour. It was great to see this not so commercially popular fruit on the menu. They are currently in season in South Australia and glad the Sofitel are putting this rare fruit to good use!

The standout from the sweet elements was the Yuzu and Coconut Entremet. It was so refreshing and melt in your mouth. Yuzu is another one of those rare but nice flavours which isn’t used often. I could imagine drinking the cocktail version of this dessert on a nice warm day.

The King Oyster mushroom pie was to die for! The pastry melted in your mouth and the flavours with the mushroom were exceptional. I could easily eat a much bigger version of the Pithvivier.

I am not a huge fan of anchovies, but the Anchoaide éclair was delicious. It was light and tasty.

I am always open to try new flavour combinations, and the Sofitel Never Never Gin High Tea provided that. The different and rare flavour pairings worked extremely well. My friend who despises beetroot liked the beetroot, goats’ cheese and caviar blinis. Beetroot in a tin has absolutely no comparison to fresh beetroot used in this bite.

We paced ourselves with the Never Never Gin cocktails but if you don’t have to work the next day and aren’t driving, you should try as many as you can. Drink responsibly of course! The Sofitel Adelaide Never Never Gin High Tea was excellent. The Sofitel Adelaide offer different High Teas with the same French flair if cocktails aren’t your thing.

It was an exceptional High Tea with excellent service. I look forward to coming back very soon.

Angie McBride

Angie got her passion for high tea, in particular scones from her Nanna. She would stay at her house regularly and they would bake scones, pasties and cakes for hours. Angie’s scones are quite popular amongst her friends. She says they need to be traditionally made though – kneading the butter and making a well for the milk! Not cream and lemonade thank you! She is a self-confessed tea snob and loves a great quality tea. She says it’s lovely, soothing and there’s nothing like a pretty tea cup.
