There's no greater pleasure than discovering a decadent delight on a cold winter's day, and the High Tea Society was lucky enough to experience this recently when taking high tea at Melbourne's Hotel Lindrum.

There’s no greater pleasure than discovering a decadent delight on a cold winter’s day, and the High Tea Society was lucky enough to experience this recently when taking high tea at Melbourne’s Hotel Lindrum.

The Hotel Lindrum is new to the high tea scene, unveiling the afternoon delight less than a month ago at its ground floor restaurant, Felt.

The restaurant seats 29 people, but can accommodate up to 40 for events, and is named after the green felt lining on top of the hotel’s famous billiard table.

Executive Chef tells the High Tea Society that no two weeks are the same menu-wise: each week, the menu is tweaked to include innovative sandwich fillings and desserts to keep high tea-goers coming back for more.

The Hotel Lindrum also offers a personal, boutique experience to the high tea enthusiast.

All the food featured is made in house with locally sourced – and where possible organic – products, including jam from Jam Lady Jam in Healesville, free-range eggs from the Yarra Valley and smallgoods from Istra in Daylesford.

A welcome glass of Moet & Chandon is served on arrival, and a choice of 15 different T2 loose leaf blends and Veneziano espresso coffee is available throughout the service.

The high tea is served on a three tier cake stand and offers fresh and generous servings.

First up were mini quiche lorraine with a light, delicate pastry and a selection of ribbon sandwiches, including ham, cheese and tomato and – my favourite – a creamy egg and lettuce.

Next was a generous serving of three lemonade scones apiece served with organic jam and clotted cream, while the top tier featured a delicious array of macaroons, lemon meringue tarts, mandarin and blueberry muffins and a white chocolate and strawberry delicacy.

My favourite was the peanut butter macaron, a deliciously savoury take on a sweet classic.
