Holiday at home this season with a dazzling Summer High Tea at Sheraton Grand Mirage Gold Coast, featuring summer berries and enticing tropical flavours.
Summer has arrived on the Gold Coast with a new seasonal High Tea offering from Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, set to a blissful backdrop of shimmering skies, swaying palm trees and a glistening resort pool.
The iconic Mirage Resort is still looking fresh after a multi-million dollar facelift of the beachfront resort, which included a total revamp of the interiors as well as exterior landscaping, port cohere and the resort’s lagoon style pool. The result is a dazzling coastal luxe vibe and on our visit, blue and silver Christmas decorations provided some sparkly festive cheer.
The swish lobby level Pearl Bar features a dramatic sunken dining area and imposing floor to ceiling glass windows, allowing guests to take full advantage of the magnificent lagoon style pool and ocean views beyond. It’s the perfect backdrop for a summer high tea in style.
Sheraton’s Summer High Tea includes a glass of bubbles and we absolutely recommend upgrading your experience with a spritz or glass of Perrier Jouet Champagne for a real sense of occasion. High Tea is presented on a traditional three-tier high tea stand laden with treats accompanied by a beautifully printed menu outlining the summer high tea selection.
All items featured on the summer high tea menu feature fresh seasonal local produce, carefully crafted by the Sheraton Grand Mirage in-house pastry chef, Natalie Mcewan – who recently celebrated 25 years with the hotel. Her love of pastry began in the kitchen of her grandmother, an award-winning pastry maker and that love of pastry shines through on the plate.
Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort chefs are able to cater to a variety of dietary requirements with prior notice and did so for our review, omitting the seafood for my dining companion.
We start the High Tea experience with the warm savoury selection which including the superb spinach, caramelised onion and feta quiche. Continuing the savour odyssey is the cheesy goodness of Woombye Ash Brie topped with fig. I’ve long been a fan of the Sunshine Coast cheese makers Woombeye Cheese Company and it’s pleasing to see their handcrafted Ash Brie featured on the seasonal menu. The delicate egg and truffle mayonnaise finger sandwiches were another savoury standout.
The warm vanilla scones came wrapped in a linen napkin, retaining their warmth until we were ready to dollop with cream and jam. We’re told the Trepang Kakadu Plum jam is a superfood rich in vitamin C, renowned for its healing benefits, so feel positively virtuous devouring these beauties.
The Kakadu Plum Jam has notes of pear, apple and mild citrus, making it the ideal treat to accompany the hand torn tea leaves from la maison du handcrafted luxurious French tea, with a choice of Jasmine Green, Grand Earl Grey, Calming Chamomile and Rooibos Raspberry Vanilla, just to name a few. Tea is served in blue and white Villeroy & Boch china cups, which perfectly match the blue hues of the pool and ocean views.
The sweet selection is where chef Mcewan really shines for the summer menu, incorporating tropical flavours and summer berries. The mango verrine with berries and fruits really encapsulated summer in a glass. Although a chocolate addict, the rich 83% dark chocolate choux au craquelin almost overpowered the other summery flavours of the sweet selection, but was still a taste sensation.
On our visit, there was a flurry of well-dressed ladies of all ages gathered to celebrate milestones and friendships in one joyous location.
Gather your friends and family this holiday season and feel like you’re on holidays at home with the Summer High Tea at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast at Pearls Bar.
