Situated amongst historic buildings and quaint cobbled streets, at the Langham Sydney you can enjoy a lavish Afternoon Tea in delightfully intimate interiors and breathtaking harbour views from a window seat.
Whatever your fancy, we highly recommend you indulge yourself in all the delights that Afternoon Tea at The Langham Sydney has to offer.
From the moment we walked into the hotel lobby you are transported into “Pink Afternoon Tea With Wedgwood” hosted in “Palm Court”, an elegant addition to the left of the hotels grand lobby level. The room pays homage to a famous room of the same name in The Langham’s flagship Hotel in London where the traditional Afternoon Tea was born over 150 years ago.
Classical music played and filled the room with an echo of old world ambience. The decor had highlights of pink and pastel tones throughout and a mix of plush transitional and art deco furniture. The room was drenched in natural light that glistened off of the Hepp Exclusiv silverware and the gold chandelier that hanged in the centre of the room. Everyone was dressed in his or her Sunday best. Tables were filled with friends and families, some with three generations of women. The room offered a feeling of tranquility and an escape from the hustle and bustle outside.
The service was impeccable and the wait staff were immaculately dressed, happy to cater to all dietary requirements. I was also happy to hear that all the pastries, truffles and macarons, are all crafted by head pastry Chef Prashanth Krishan, in the Langham’s in-house Patisserie.
The menu is elegantly divided into six sweet and six savoury delights, to pair with a selection of teas all served on Wedgwood fine tea ware including a luxurious, large, 1 meter 3 tier, beautifully crafted cake stand. The delicate pairing of sweet and savoury items than can be enhanced with The Langham, Sydney’s champagne of choice, Laurent-Perrier.
We started our tasting journey with the savoury items. A favourite was the Lamb and Rosemary Pie and the Mushroom and Goats Cheese Vol-au-vent. The lamb and rosemary pie was substantial, the chicken liver parfait with brioche was smooth, light and creamy and coupled nicely with the curried chicken and spinach finger sandwich. For the vegetarians there is a deliciously roasted vegetable sandwich bursting with roasted vegetables. The smoked trout quiche was tasty and paired well as it was not ‘fishy’.
Amongst the sweeter items, the Rosewater Lamington took the gold. I loved its perfectly sponge-like texture and the fresh cream and jam to pair it with. The white chocolate and rosella bonbon works well with the tea assortments available, light with a crisp outer layer. The raspberry macaron was surprisingly not too sweet, although chewy, as many have become recently in my experience. The other items on the ‘sweet’ menu included the; wild strawberry and vanilla crème cone and pomegranate marshmallow, which was lovely, but noticeably targeted super sweet and for children to enjoy.
