Afternoon Tea at The Ritz-Carlton Perth

Fancy an afternoon gazing at the Swan River with a cup or glass of your favourite beverage and a sumptuous afternoon tea? Well, look no further than The Ritz-Carlton, Perth.

Situated on Elizabeth Quay, I was keen to take my place at the table next to the window and kick off my afternoon with a glass of Howard Park Petit Jeté. It wasn’t long before the three-tiered tower of sweet and savoury treats arrived at the table.

I started with the smoke chicken sandwich with egg, mayonnaise, and celery, topped with anise myrtle. The creamy filling was the perfect combination of flavours and a very favourable start to the afternoon tea. The Shark Bay prawn charcoal éclair with dill, chive, and dollops of tobiko roe was the perfect chaser. Once again, the core ingredients married well together, and extra points for the flavourful charcoal casing. The crunch in the ratatouille croquet with the basil and sundried tomato mayonnaise was a winner, while the smoked ham and ricotta mini quiche also boasted a delicious creamy centre.

One thing was clear: the Ritz-Carlton Perth really excels at their creamy savoury fillings, so I took a moment to savour the first part of the menu and ordered a Seven Seas peppermint tea (a personal favourite) for the desserts. The first of which were the two delicious scones, buttermilk and raisin with whipped vanilla cream and housemade preserve.

At first glance, the rum baba looked like a lemon, so I was very keen to try it. The grilled pineapple, basil, and coconut cream was summer on a plate, and the syrupy centre (there goes their amazing centres again!) was a welcome surprise. However, it was the mojito mousse with apple tatin, lime, and river mint vegan meringue that took the crown for dish of the day. Each layer was better than the last, and the tart flavour was sublime. I finished up the day with the strawberry shortcake; the milder flavour was a welcome addition after the previous two knockout desserts.

The Ritz-Carlton Perth’s afternoon tea is a delight from start to finish. The impressive menu ticked all the boxes for flavour and presentation, and their gluten-free menu mirrors the regular menu, while the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It’s worth noting that there were only a few tables of people the day I was there, so it was reasonably quiet. However, it may get noisy when the venue is busier, given the design of the room, plus the kitchen is open. That aside, it’s well worth it.
