Spread some Christmas cheer with your nearest and dearest at the Festive Season High Tea in the Westin Hotel Perth.

Situated in their Haven Lounge, the menu is a festive feast spread over three delicious tiers. I kicked off the afternoon with a refreshing complimentary cocktail, pomegranate gin fizz which proved the perfect accompaniment for the bottom tier, the savouries. I was quick to start with the turkey, brie, and cranberry finger sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The only way it could’ve been better is with a touch more cranberry sauce. Being an apricot fan, I was very keen to move onto the pressed ham hock with pistachio and apricot gel, and it certainly delivered, as did the lobster brioche with fennel. I finished up the savouries with the vichyssoise with chive oil and caviar, extra points for the presentation. The little, red-handled pots were both festive and a true standout.

It was then time to order a pot of Jing Peppermint tea for the desserts and boy did they start with a bang! At the top of the three-tiered tower (and deservedly so, as it turned out) was the mixed spiced scone, which alone is worth a trip to the Westin Hotel Perth. Combined with the Chantilly cream and fruit mince jam, it was perfection on a plate and a fabulous alternate take on the traditional fruit mince pie. It was one of the nicest and most unique scones I’ve ever had.

The middle tier then beckoned, where the pretty-as-a picture desserts resided. The oh-so-cute tiny package, aka the toasted coconut and blackcurrant gift, was a light introduction with its subtle flavours, while the raspberry and custard choux was “very custardy”, yum! The Bûche de Noël was a mini replica Christmas tree made up of cocoa sponge and icing and another light addition to the menu. I rounded off the day with my customary chocolate fix with the dark chocolate Christmas bauble. The glistening lookalike ornament, complete with a white chocolate hook, was definitely the scene-stealer presentation-wise and only narrowly missed out on the dish of the day to the mixed spiced scone.

The Westin Perth’s Festive Season High Tea is a celebration of all things Christmas. The Haven’s ambience is both relaxing and decadent, and the staff certainly look after you, so it’s the perfect place for a Christmas catch-up. Packages start from just $49 per head, and it is available daily from 12 pm–4 pm. This menu and the gluten free option (which closely resembles the regular menu) runs until early January, so don’t delay; it really is the gift that keeps on giving!
