It’s always a delight to discover a new 5-star afternoon tea, and the Park Hyatt Melbourne’s latest menu, the Art of Afternoon Tea, certainly delivers.
Served in The Lounge, which is located across from the Park Hyatt Melbourne’s expansive circular reception area, the venue features cherry wood panelled walls, and floor-to-ceiling windows along one side that offer views of the outdoor terrace while also diffusing the space with soft, natural light.
The space is styled with a mix of long glass tables and smaller wood-topped tables, each adorned by dark magenta, yellow and grey plush couches and armchairs to provide an inviting atmosphere.
On this occasion we are experiencing the $88 package, which includes free-flowing Bay of Stones NV Brut poured in stunning Spiegelau champagne glasses with impossibly thin stems—adding an elegant touch to the occasion.
The silverware is equally refined, featuring tongs, a sugar pot, and crisp white linen napkins. Tea is served in individual Georg Jensen silver teapots, further elevating the experience.
Executive Sous Chef Amit Chitnis, who has worked in 5-star kitchens around the world, including Grand Hyatt Singapore, Ramada UK, Grand Hyatt Melbourne, and The Conservatory at Crown Melbourne, says this new menu reflects the vibrancy of summer.
Featuring bright, fresh produce and playful colours, it pays homage to traditional afternoon tea by maintaining classic finger sandwich fillings, while showcasing flair with beautifully executed desserts that steal the show.
The uniform precision of the finger sandwiches is a testament to his skill, offering delicate fillings encased in impeccably soft bread.

While the scones – plain and traditional – are on the petite side, they are a highlight nonetheless. With a satisfyingly biscuity crunch on the outside and a soft, pillowy interior, they are complemented by three different preserves, allowing guests to customise their scone experience.
The desserts are simply divine. The lemon meringue tart stands out for its delicate balance of flavours—the lemon curd centre is light, while the almond biscuit base adds a delightful dimension.
The rich chocolate macaron, topped with a dark chocolate leaf, is a must-try for any chocolate lover.
Meanwhile, the raspberry teacup is a visual and sensory delight, with layers of cream, sponge, and jam, all nestled on a biscuit base.
If you’re searching for a luxurious high tea experience in Melbourne that combines exceptional value with exquisite flavours and impeccable presentation, look no further than the Park Hyatt Melbourne’s Art of Afternoon Tea.
With its refined atmosphere, attentive service, and a menu that is as visually striking as it is delicious, it truly sets the standard for afternoon tea – and does so while being the best value afternoon tea of any 5-star hotel in Melbourne.
