Young foodies can now enjoy their very own high tea experience at The Grand Hyatt Melbourne with the newly-launched Little Sippers’ High Tea menu – a charming, child-friendly twist on the original, complete with mini savouries, sweet treats, and access to a luxurious dessert buffet.

Touted as the perfect way to treat your little ones to something special, this savvy addition allows the grown-ups to enjoy the fabulous High Tea in Style by Cristina Re while children 12 and under get to enjoy a tailored menu designed to delight even the most selective young palates.

Served in Collins Kitchen (the Grand Hyatt Melbourne’s lobby restaurant) on Saturday afternoons, the adults are offered a glass of Chandon Blanc de Blancs on arrival, as well as a selection of T2 black, green and herbal teas, while our little high tea reviewer for the day is offered her choice of juices.

The venue is close to full on this particular day, and we are thrilled to be seated in one of the glass booths boasting floor-to-ceiling views of Russell Street. These spaces provide just the right amount of privacy while still being inclusive of the overall chatty vibe of the rest of the venue.

The table is set with elegant, mismatched Cristina Re tea ware, and generously sized bowls full of jam, marmalade and cream.

Both menus are stunning in their own right – the adult menu features finger sandwiches, scones and savouries on a three-tier stand, with three sharing plates featuring warm savouries and an impressive dessert buffet laden with petit fours, a chocolate fountain, crepe station and gelati counter.

The entire menu is vibrant in colour and packed with bold flavours, with highlights including a mortadella white finger sandwich with provolone and green olive tapenade; a spanner crab tartlet seasoned to perfection with lemon and glistening with plump orange salmon roe; and a spinach, ricotta and parmesan empanada served with a delightful chimichurri.

Other standouts include a whipped taramasalata with bottarga atop a mini crumpet, a decadent Earl Grey chocolate tart with a banana brownie base, and profiteroles filled with spiced apple.

The children’s menu, The Little Sippers’ High Tea, while pared back, is no less impressive: two tiers boasting finger sandwiches, bite-sized mac and cheese arancini, and a pork sausage roll with dipping sauces, as well as smaller scones for those little tummies.

The mac and cheese arancini and scones were the clear favourites, but the real drawcard for our little sipper was, perhaps unsurprisingly, the chocolate fountain and gelati counter.

The Grand Hyatt Melbourne has truly elevated its high tea offering, blending sophistication with thoughtful touches that appeal to guests of all ages.

Nestled at the Paris end of Melbourne, it’s the perfect spot to unwind for an indulgent afternoon tea after a morning of retail therapy – with or without your little ones. With excellent services rounding out the experience, this is a must-visit destination for locals and visitors alike.
