If you are looking for a Melbourne city high tea that consistently delivers - The Waiting Room at Crown Melbourne is my favourite.
Not only are the serving sizes generous (the biggest savoury selection on offer we’ve had) the food is delicious and the service and venue delightful.
The latest offering, the Aperol High Tea, has some lovely nods to both the drink and Italy. And it is also a visual feast, with gorgeous pops of orange that make it almost too pretty to eat, almost.
Where to begin, well all the warm savoury items were delicious. And the cold savouries were also lip smacking… the stand out for me was the Tangerine Infused Smoked Trout, Crab & Fennel Salad, Beetroot Brioche – a visual work of art and delicious to boot.
The sweets tasted as good as they looked, the Panna Cotta, Aperol Spritz Jelly was my favourite – fun to look at and eat. And who can go past a crumble? The Strawberry & Rhubarb Almond Crumble was yum.
And finally the scones with house jam – light, fluffy, super fresh with a nice firm outside, these were excellent scones paired with delicious jams: Strawberry & Rhubarb Jam, Blood Orange Ruby Grapefruit Marmalade.
But the high tea fun doesn’t end there. It is served with an Aperol Spritz Cocktail Taster (a medium sized cocktail) and you also leave with a gift box of Aperol and Marshmallow chocolates to enjoy at home!
